High Falls State Park, Georgia

High Falls State Park is located approximately 3 miles East of exit 198 on Georgia I-75.

There are two separate camping areas. Lakeside and Riverside. At the Lakeside camping area the lake is in view but no RV sites are on the lake. In the Riverside camping area the sites that are on the river are few and there is a steep twenty foot drop off to the water. It is difficult to access the river from your campsite.

All campsites are spacious, level and very accessible. I stayed in site 81, a pull thru site in the Riverside RV area. All facilities and services were in very good repair.

When approaching the park on High Falls Road note that the entrance to the river camp is on the south side of the road and a few hundred feet before the main park entrance on the North side of the road.

WiFi is available around the ranger station. I was at a picnic table a couple of hundred from the ranger station and the WiFi was excellent.

The area has several small grocery stores and a Dollar General store. Restaurants are available back a the interstate.

The park surrounds a lake. The dam across the lake provided water power for an electrical power plant and other area factories. Within the park are several historic building foundations and the power generator plant building is complete and still standing.

The depth of the lake runs around 15-20 feet with a healthy population of crappie, bass and other species. I like the limitation of ten-horsepower on boat motors. The 10hp restriction keeps the water skiers and other speed crazies off the lake.
